I WANT TO BE AN ENGINEER

With attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. My journey towards writing in engineering
The decision of taking a winter class took a while in order to take Action. I was thinking about taking writing for engineers by Itself just because of my appreciation to the engineering field and how I should take this class seriously In order to improve my skills and inspirations when we relate to expressionism and perspective in terms of engineering. I had 3 major ideas and assignments. Each one had its own unique story and experience. Starting from drafts, second draft reviews and peer reviews until having the best version of this idea. In the self reflection, I will be able to share my experiences over a condensed intensive three week Engineering experience.
On the first day, starting from scratch, the experience of doing lab experiments was quite confusing at the beginning especially when I don’t have that much experience in chemistry. I still had to figure out my strengths in science. I ended up choosing a physics related idea and I was talking about the pendulum experiment. It was conducted to study how factors such as string length, mass, and angle of release affect the period of swinging. This was the first idea that came to mind when I was figuring out what to choose.I started to look at other drafts online and It helped a little bit. My first peer reviews were quite difficult not because I am not familiar with the topics, but the strategy of reviewing the whole lab report was confusing at the beginning until I read the Lab Report reading that was provided and I kind of got hints about how to analyze other’s work. Reviewing other peers’ work gave me the chance to go over my own writing and identify areas where I could improve, by making sure I have clear hypotheses and stronger conclusions.
Another example when it comes to peer reviewing when I was able to analyze Chris’ technical description and I was making sure that the content displayed included table of contents, definition, overview, components, explanation, conclusion, and references but lacks a cover page.To sum up, I am proud of my description and think it came out pretty well. For one, I feel it’s an understandable read, that most people can read and understand it.
And here comes the last major assignment when we presented our proposal for a machine-learning-based trash scan classifier. The system aims to classify waste types for better recycling efficiency. During the presentation, we received feedback on areas of improvement especially in the design quality and the anticipation of how the industry will look like in the future as a short-term goal. Starting from the introduction into describing and visualizing the product identifying the materials being used, and how much are they and how authentic they will be in order to contain our product that is considered cheaper than other options
I plan to focus on structuring my feedback more effectively, by making sure it is specific and supportive. After having this presentation, I felt motivated to master core engineering principles through online courses, workshops, and hands-on projects that will help me to be more familiar with engineering which is my field. I would like to develop my technical skills in programming as well, data analysis, and system design that is relevant to my field. I was also motivated to participate in hackathons or competitions that improve my innovative abilities. I realized that offering specific and actionable suggestions can sometimes be challenging especially if your weaknesses are some fields you are not familiar with. In the future, I will look forward to applying skills that I am trying to develop to both my own writing and peer reviews.
